An Extremely Rare And Desirable 2nd Model Virginia Manufactory Flintlock Rifle Dated 1817.

46 inch part round part octagonal barrel. .45 caliber.

One of only 292 examples made at the Virginia Manufactory in 1817. Barrel stamped 13 at breech. Lock with the lovely Virginia swan neck hammer with the characteristic upside down “VIRGINIA” stamping and “RICHMOND 1817” on the tail of the lock.

Beautifully patinated maple full stock with 2nd Model Virginia cheekpiece. This rifle has been had some work done but is in overall good condition. Does not appear to be reconverted but original flintlock configuration. Barrel is smooth brown patina and stock is good. Bore is now smooth.

This exact rifle was in the collection of the dean of American martial shoulder arms collectors, George Moller, author of the three volume series American Military Shoulder Arms. This rifle is pictured in Volume 2 on pages 321-323.
