U.S. Model 1913 Officer's Cavalry Saber (Patton), Mfg. 1918, Springfield Armory

Manufacturer:Springfield Armory, Springfield, Massachusetts
Overall Length:44" (approx.)
Blade Length:35" (approx.)
*Condition:Excellent (please refer to photographs)
Stock No:001549

An entirely chromed U.S. Model 1913 cavalry officer’s saber dated 1918, manufactured by the Springfield Armory. The original frog and saddle attachments are rare and extremely hard to find.

This is the officers' model with the metal scabbard. The blade is in excellent condition with just a small amount of staining while retaining most of the original arsenal polish.

This sword pattern was designed by Lieutenant George Patton (later General Patton) while working at the cavalry school. He was inspired by the European style of straight-bladed cavalry swords that replaced the curved-bladed saber. This saber's primary use was as a lance, instead of a slashing, cutting saber.

Most likely used as an officer’s parade sword, this high condition and spectacular saber would be the center piece of any 1913 collection.
