A Very Fine And Massive Ottoman Turkish Heavy Silver Mounted Yataghan With Gold Damascened Blade Circa 1850.
20 and 7/8th inch classic recurved yataghan blade with 7 and 3/4 inch gold Damascened panel on each side above a silver Damascened tughra. The unusually heavy silver bifurcated yataghan hilt is inlaid with numerous bezel set red coral beads.
The heavy all silver scabbard is chased in relief on both sides in imitation of leather. The chape end is cast and chased in high relief with scrolls. The scabbard is a full 25 inches long and is the work of a master silversmith. The blade is in particularly fine condition and retains all the lovely gold Damascene. The massive hilt with only minor wear and no losses to the lovely coral decoration. The silver scabbard with expected minor dents but no significant losses or serious dents.
At 31 inches overall in scabbard and weighing 2 pounds 14 ounces this is a most impressive and attractive Ottoman yataghan.
