A Scarce And Desirable First Type Merrill Civil War Single Shot Saddle Ring Carbine Serial Number 4909 Dated 1862.
22 and 1/8th inch round barrel. .54 caliber. An interesting example of this scarce carbine with tin plated furniture, action, and lock plate likely for naval use. Barrel with smooth metal and only extremely minor pitting only some staining. Tinned lock and action with sharp markings.
Walnut stock with expected wear from use but generally sound. Action is good on both half and full cock. The bore is exceptional with no appreciable wear or pitting. Patchbox lid opens and closes smartly as does the breechloading action itself.
A nice example of this scarce carbine with only 14,995 manufactured of both First and Second Types. Flayderman 9B-075.
