A Fine And Rare Pre-Revolutionary Scottish Baskethilt Backsword Circa 1755.
32 inch engraved backsword blade, 1 and 1/4 inches wide at forte. One broad fuller extending nearly the entire length of the blade and one narrow fuller above of the same length. Blade engraved with a trophy of arms, castle, and decorative panels. Blade is signed along the spine “Clement Henry Koller Marchiando a Solingen”.
Fine Scottish basket hilt pierced with hearts featuring classic saltires and coiled quillon. Original fish skin grip over wood, wrapped with single strand twisted brass wire. Onion pommel with cut work decoration. 38 inches overall.
Condition is fine overall with clear crisp blade engraving, fine original grip, and little corrosion to the beautiful hilt. This is a very handsome classic backsword and with a particularly well signed blade.
