A Desirable Winchester Model 1866 Saddle Ring Carbine Serial Number 149286 For 1878.
18 inch round barrel. 44 rimfire caliber.
Barrel with Winchester address visible and original rear sight. Barrel has been shortened from the standard 20 inch configuration likely in the period of use. Barrel has attractive deep brown age patina as does magazine tube (minor dents). Barrel band with crack on both sides.
Brass frame is very good with tight side plates. Hammer, lever, and trigger show uncleaned age patina. Walnut fore-end rates very good with little wear. Unnumbered original Winchester 1866 walnut butt-stock is very good with added varnish but full dimension and fits perfectly. Original brass buttplate with matching honey color brass.
Action is good and bore is fine to excellent. All brass frame Winchesters are highly desirable regardless of condition and this example is much better than commonly encountered.
