A Very Attractive Soft Metal (Kinko) Mounted Japanese Samurai Sword Wakizashi Shin Shinto Period Circa 1840.
15 inch cutting edge shinogi tsukuri blade with ko-midare temper. Ubu (uncut) nakago with one mekugi-ana. Good silver foil wrapped habaki. Shakudo nanako tsuba with gold rim depicting shi shi dogs in gold on the dark shakudo ground. Beautiful shakudo nanako fuchi kashira with gold peonies. Large and lovely shakudo menuki with chrysanthemum and sprays of foliage. Shakudo nanako kozuka with relief panel of shi shi in gold amidst blossoms and foliage.
Kozuka blade signed Kunisada. Ribbed black roiro lacquer saya. Blade is in full bright polish. Fuchi, kashira, and menuki are excellent. Tsuba with only minor wear and very fine nanako, excellent same.
Saya lacquer rates excellent with none of the usual cracks. Kozuka is excellent. This is a most eye appealing wakizashi that possesses genuine presence and will impress both novice and veteran aficionados of the samurai sword.
