A Remington Model 1863 Percussion Civil War Contract “Zouave" Rifle.
33 inch round barrel .58 caliber 7 groove rifling. Lock markings an American eagle over small U.S. and REMINGTON’S/Illion, N.Y.
Brass furniture including patchbox. Lock with medium pitting. Barrel with pitting mostly at breech and behind rear barrel band. Forward of rear band the barrel retains 90%+ original bluing. Original ramrod is patinated. Nipple missing from patchbox.
Walnut stock is excellent with two perfect inspectors cartouches. Bore is near new and action is crisp as a new rifle. The pitting is undoubtedly from poor storage as this Zouave is otherwise in unissued condition.
Universally recognized as perhaps the best made and designed military arm of the Civil War the Zouave is also the most handsome. Every Civil War collector needs an example of this beautiful long gun.
