A Very Fine Pair Of Royal Quality Spanish Migulet Holster Pistols By Pere Torrento (1756-1816) Gunmaker To The King of Naples (1810) Circa 1790.
8 inch ‘Spanish’ form .68 caliber. Barrels of the finest quality with sunken mark of Comas, Ripoll 1700-1730. Cannon muzzles with exquisitely executed beading. 16 sided for half their length. The breeches finely inlaid with silver foliage inhabited by a standing bird.
Spanish form patilla migulet locks with finely engraved hammers, frizzen bridle and frizzens. Locks are boldly signed “TORRENTO”. Beautifully engraved brass mounts are decorated with silver portrait busts of Roman heroes (not as rubbed as commonly seen). Silver khumbpieces.
Figured walnut full stocks are carved in relief behind breeches and incise carved on forends. Spurred buttcaps with silver portrait busts. Both pistols retain their original horn tipped wood ramrods. Condition of barrels with very minor wear, Locks are very crisp with considerable original polish. Walnut stocks with most of their original varnish finish with little wear.
Mechanically excellent with all lock parts original. Bores are good. 14 inches overall.
