A Good Silver Mounted Ottoman/Balkan Short Sword Yataghan Circa 1850.
Plain 19 inch yataghan blade struck with the blade smith’s mark on left side. The hilt of classic “eared” form finely engraved with trophies of arms and floral strapwork. Long silver chape and locket finely engraved ensuite with the hilt. Original “Morocco” leather bound with silver chain covers the portion of the scabbard not covered by the chape and locket.
The blade stained but not pitted. The hilt in fine condition with sharp and beautiful engraving. The chape and locket in fine condition with sharp engraving and only a few very minor marks.
A refreshing change from the usual yataghan and most attractive overall. 25 and 3/8th inches overall out of scabbard. 26 and 1/2 inches overall in scabbard.
