A Very Rare And Highly Sought After Standard Production Type IV Confederate Fayetteville Armory Rifle Dated 1864. 33 inch barrel. .58 caliber.

Barrel has been bored out to .62 likely after the Civil War when rifles lost their purpose and a smoothbore would be an efficient tool to feed the family. Breech dated 1864, One leaf rear sight an old replacement.

The bolster a period replacement likely by a Confederate armorer. Fayetteville lock marked with eagle over CSA and FAYETTEVILLE. Dated at tail of lock plate 1864. Brass furniture comprising barrel bands stamped “U”, triggerguard, and buttplate stamped “CSA”.

Walnut full stock with Confederate inspector’s mark script “PB”, for Fayetteville master armorer Phillip Burkhart. The barrel is heavily patinated with a deep even age brown and no significant pitting. The lock with the same lovely deep even age brown and clear markings. The brass mounts with beautiful honey color and is unpolished.

The walnut full stock with expected marks from military use with visible cartouche and wonderful glowing hand patination throughout. The action is as crisp as it was in 1864 with both half and full cock. Ramrod appears to be original to the musket with worm.

With the exception of the rear sight this is an entirely original example of one of the quintessential Confederate issued long arms.

The condition appears to be untouched. If you are looking for a really fine Confederate rifle look no further than this beautiful Fayetteville rifle.
