A Chinese Paired Sword (shuangjian) "Seven Stars Jian".
Features Relief Cast Brass Mounts and Fine Green Large Nodule Shagreen Scabbard and Waisted and Reeded Buffalo Horn Grip Circa 1850.
19 and 1/2 inch double edged blade, flat on one side inlaid with seven circular brass inlays representing the constellation Ursa Major or “Beidou” the “Seven Stars Jian”. The hilt with large dragon quillon block, brass pommel, and buffalo horn grips.
The scabbard with cast brass mounts and unusually good quality shagreen. 26 and 1/2 inches overall.
Condition overall is very good. This is the classic “Seven Stars Jian” larger and better than usually encountered.
