A Very Nice Springfield Model 1816 Type II (or Model 1822) Flintlock Musket. 69 caliber with 42 inch round barrel.
Both lock and barrel are dated 1831. The lock is deeply struck with National eagle over US and stamped at tail ‘Springfield 1831’. Barrel stamped ‘V P’ with eagle and dated 1831.
Condition is full dimension with bright barrel and lock, showing light pitting. Wood is full dimension and inspector’s cartouche is partially legible. Lock parts are all original not converted and action is crisp as new. Trumpet ramrod appears original.
