A Very Rare And Desirable Silver Inlaid Pair Of Ramshorn Butt Scottish Flintlock Pistols By The Renowned John Campbell II Doune Scotland Circa 1750.

7 inch barrels with fluted muzzles and faceted breeches. .52 caliber. The barrels with faceted cannon muzzles and engraving at the wedding bands (worn). Sidelocks with bridled frizzens and swan neck cocks with pierced, engraved rowels. The locks are signed “Jo Campbell” in script.

Steel 3/4 stocks are inlaid with silver wire arabesques and vacant thick silver monogram plates in the characteristic Scottish manner. Elaborate pierced steel belt hooks. Engraved silver ball triggers and prickers.

These rare and wonderful pistols show wear overall but retain most of the silver decoration. The actions are good on full and half cock and bores are good. Both pistols have elaborate turned steel ramrods.

Pairs of mid 18th century Scottish pistols are highly sought after and this pair with the rowels are even more so. 10 and 3/4 inches overall. Campbell is among the most celebrated of all Scottish gunmakers.
