A good Civil War Percussion Sharps Carbine, serial number 58983.
No patchbox, .52 caliber, 22" barrel. All markings are visible. Barrel with a pleasing gray/brown patina and frame showing some mottled silvered out case color. Six groove rifled bore is good with strong lands and grooves and scattered frosting/pitting.
Wood shows some mars typical of a Martial Arm and fore-end has an old over varnish, with just traces on butt stock. Butt has several compression cracks emanating from the buttplate. No visible cartouche.
Action functions perfectly. Original R.S. Lawrence Patented rear sight still has sharp spring. Sling ring bar has inspector letters on attachment flat and is split from the frame attachment.
A classic Civil War Sharps Carbine with great eye appeal.
