A Fine Philadelphia Second Model Civil War Era J.M. Cooper Double Action Pocket Model Revolver Serial Number 6911.
4 inch octagonal barrel, .31 caliber.
Essentially a double action version of the Colt Model 1849 pocket revolver the Cooper is far scarcer. The entire production of all models and variations is only 15,000 compared with 340,000 1849 Colts.
Serial 6911 bears the Frankford, Philadelphia address. The barrel retains 80%+ bright original bluing with light marks around the wedge. The matching lever has much faded gray casehardening.
A period brass rear sight has been added by a master gunsmith. Matching five shot cylinder with 40% original blue with some flaking and heavy tracking line. Frame with faded casehardening mostly smooth gray. Trigger with 20% bluing. Mellow patina on brass backstrap and triggerguard.
Grips with 95% original varnish and only very minor wear to extreme toe. Bore is good. Action is exceptionally crisp on both double and single action.
This is a very fine example of a scarce gun.
