A Good Spanish Colonial Caribe Or Bilbao Hilt Broadsword Circa 1835.
35 and 1/2 inch diamond shape broadsword blade. 1 and 3/8th inches wide at forte. The blade with short central fuller engraved “EN TOLEDO”. Blade is very fine condition.
Shell guard of classic form (lightly patinated). Well formed and forged classic Bilbao hilt with ball finials on quillions and D-guard. Onion shaped pommel. The waisted wood grip surmounted with steel “Turk’s Heads”. The shell guard is loose however the hilt is tight to the blade. Hilt is lightly patinated but not pitted.
41 and 1/2 inches overall. This is an attractive example of the classic Spanish colonial broadsword.
