A good U.S. Civil War Model 1863 Starr Army Single Action Revolver.
About 32,000 made from 1863-1865, .44 caliber percussion, 8" barrel.
Pleasing gray/brown patina with only scattered minor pitting. Clear maker's markings and inspector stamps. Original walnut grips show some mars and gouges with an inspector's cartouche on the right side and a partially visible cartouche on the left. The bore shows scattered pitting but has strong lands and grooves. The action is fine.
After Colts and Remingtons, this was the major model of revolver purchased by the U.S. Government during the Civil War with approximately 25,000 purchased under contract.
