A Fine And Rare Showa Era Japanese Diplomatic Sword In Its Scabbard.

The 23 and 3/4 inch plated and gilt blade is beautifully etched with foliage and richly gilded. The Imperial kiri mon is etched at the forte on the reverse side.

Please note that most diplomatic swords have plain plated blades. The hilt is gilded, cast and chased with characteristic scalloped shell guard pierced with a large kiri mon. The guard with gilt and the single quillon cast in the round with a fierce bird. Gilt pommel cast and gilt with raised kiri mon on each side. Elaborate wire bound grip.

Condition of blade is pristine with 100% plating and 100% gilding. Perfect etching. Hilt with 65%  bright gilding and very negligible wear. Chape and locket are good with some wear to gilding. Lacquer wood scabbard with a few chips but 90% original black lacquer.

This is a very fine and rare sword in extraordinary condition and even retains its original gold bullion knot.
