A Fine And Very Rare Pair Of Long Spanish Catalan Style Miquelet Belt Pistols By Alonso Desuloaga (de Zuloaga?) Dated 1732.

The 11 inch long Spanish form barrels are held in place by pierced steel bands. The lock of classic patila form is plain but both cock and frizzen retainer are chiseled with foliage. Face of frizzen engraved with double headed eagle and signed and dated on the frizzen foot. Steel trigger guards with incised engraving.

60 caliber bore. Plain well forged steel buttcaps. Floral form rosettes around piercing for lanyards. Long steel faceted belt hooks pierced at apex with a heart. Highly figured molded walnut full stocks still retain period leather finger protectors.

Condition of barrels gently cleaned with extremely minor pitting. Locks are crisp. Stocks are good with a few minor marks and lovely grain throughout. Actions are crisp with the characteristic stiff Spanish miquelet mainsprings. Bores are fine. Steel ramrods are old replacements. 16 and 1/2 inches overall.

Spanish pistols of this early period are very rare and these could well have seen service at the side of Spanish officers in Spanish colonial America. They are dated 1732 and are nearly 300 years old yet still complete and functional.

These pistols are for the advanced collector of early flintlocks who wants rarity, form, quality and condition.
