Unique Massive 18 And 3/4 Pound American Double Barrel Percussion Brass Barrel "Crowd Control" Smoothbore Gun Circa 1850.
22 and 7/8 inch round barrels. 7/8 inch bore (8 bore). The barrels with central rib are totally unmarked in typical American fashion. Steel patent breech. The back action locks feature outsize hammers and are austere and unmarked. The outsize highly figured walnut half stock is checkered at the wrist. Steel buttplate and German silver triggerguard.
This monster retains what appears to be its original brass tipped wood ramrod. Condition of the barrels is untouched unpolished ‘honey’ colored brass. Locks are deeply patinated but not pitted. Figured walnut half stock appears to have 80% original varnish with one tight grain crack near buttplate on right side only. Enormous bores are good and both locks function well on both half and full cock. 39 inches overall.
To say this gun is impressive would be an understatement. Norm Flayderman would have loved this mammoth brass barrel gun and featured it in his catalog.
If you want a really ‘cool’ gun that will impress the most jaded gun collector this “whale of a double gun” is for you.
