A Very Rare Colt Revolving Cylinder Percussion Military Rifle Serial Number 5925 Circa 1861. 27 inch barrel, 56 caliber.
An extreme rarity with only 100 manufactured, a few of these saw military service in the Civil War.
Barrel retains most of a period restored brown finish. Markings obscured by a replacement rear sight. Front sight replaced possibly at time of use. Brass barrel bands are old replacements but look great. Frame has old period brown finish and good traces of “Colt’s Patent” markings and “November 24th 1857.” Note these markings are often faint even on pristine mint revolving rifles. Brass regulation triggerguard stamped “56 Cal”.
Figured walnut buttstock and fore-end have most of an old re-varnish and are nearly full dimension. Original steel buttplate with sliding trap is good and fits the stock well. Cylinder is a lovely brown patina en suite with the barrel and frame. The action is crisp on both half and full cock. The bore is remarkably good with clearly defined lands and grooves.
This is a very handsome Colt collector’s rarity and with only 100 ever manufactured will be a star in any collection of Colt percussion firearms. Highly unlikely you will find another one.
