A Very Fine Incise Carved And Checkered Flintlock Kentucky Long Rifle Signed In Full “J.N. Hampton” West Hanover, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania 1837-1840.

41 and 1/2 inch octagonal barrel. 50 caliber deeply rifled bore.

The barrel is entirely “in the black” with great Hampton signature on the top flat. Fine stepped, engraved bolted flintlock lock stamped “Lon Warrant" (London warranted) in the black with all small parts original. Beautiful engraved brass sideplate with two side nails. Outstanding brass patchbox pierced and engraved. Silver star inlaid in cheekpiece.

The beautifully figured maple full stock is finely checkered at the wrist. Fore-end is splendidly incise carved with lines and scrolls. Condition of the steel surfaces is untouched “In the black”. The stock retains nearly all its original piano varnish. There is a 17 inch by 1/4 inch loss to wood on the left side behind the brass nosecap. Fortunately this is the side that would go against the wall. There is an ares of varnish loss behind the rear ramrod pipe.

At 57 inches overall this is one beautiful Kentucky long rifle by a well known and highly regarded Pennsylvania maker in original flint and in virtually untouched condition.
