A Rare Cut For Shoulder Stock Colt Civilian 1860 Army Revolver Matching Serial Numbers 81286S For Late In 1862. 44 caliber 8 inch barrel.
According to the authority in all matters 1860 Army, author and researcher extraordinaire, Charles Pate, Serial number 81286S is the earliest civilian 1860 cut for stock to be recorded. Each stamped number has an ’S’ stamped beneath indicating cut for shoulder stock or as Colonel Colt referred to them “carbine breech”.
The barrel with good Colt markings exhibits a smooth deep even age brown as does the rammer The cylinder has a full Naval Engagement scene and beautiful even age brown patina. Safety pins are flattened but visible. The frame is smooth metal. Backstrap and triggerguard are smooth untouched brass and steel.
The grip is almost deluxe burl walnut with old over-varnish but is full dimension and fits perfectly doubtless the original. The action is crisp and the bore is very good with strong rifling.
This is a significant variation for the advanced collector of percussion Colts or a collector who wants a nice Civil War period 1860 Army.
