A Very Fine Colt Model 1861 Navy Revolver Serial Number 28667 For 1866. 7 and 1/2 inch barrel, 6 shot.
With only 38843 ever manufactured and many of this model converted to cartridge the 1861 Navy is almost 7 times as rare as the 1851 Navy. To find one in fine condition is rare as well. Number 28667 is almost fine enough to merit casing.
The barrel retains 85% original blue much of it bright. Some prominent auctions would catalog the finish as 95%. The wedge matches. The cylinder has 100% of the naval engagement scene and 95% of the darkening original bluing. All six pin safeties are perfect and the back of the cylinder can be described as pristine with 100% dark original blue. The rammer has strong traces of color casehardening toward the hinge. The casehardening on the frame is mottled gray. Back-strap and trigger-guard are mellow brass.
The original walnut grip has very old over-varnish with minor marks and little wear. All numbers match. The bore is absolutely mint as it was when it left Hartford in 1866. Nipples are perfect as is the action.
This is a very fine and scarce percussion Colt. Screws are good as well.
