A Fine 17th Century Indian Pata with Elaborate Pierced and Relief Chiseled Hilt.
The classic and unique style of Indian gauntlet sword with wide double edged 38 and 1/2 inch blade with short fuller appears to be of pattern welded steel. The gauntlet measures 13 inches in length and is chiseled and pierced throughout its length with flowers and vines in the Indian manner.
The steel armstrap is engraved and well fashioned. This is a serious weapon masterfully forged throughout and of excellent quality. Condition of blade is worn with chip at extreme tip but remains razor sharp.
The hilt is worn showing 400 years of use and wear. Unlike most later pata’s with European blades this is a wonderful sword made for an Indian warrior of high rank. If it were in pristine condition it would be priced in the five figures.
