Fine And Very Desirable Signed Flintlock Kentucky Long Rifle By Daniel Beck Circa 1820

44 inch heavy octagonal barrel signed in script “D. Beck” on top flat. Buckhorn rear and silver front sight. 48 caliber heavily rifled. Engraved bolted lock signed “Tryon Philadela” (sic) (George Tryon). Engraved double neck cock with bridled roller bearing frizzen.

Importantly this fine rifle appears to be in its original flintlock configuration. Brass furniture includes lovely typical 4 piece unadorned Beck patchbox. Butt with Beck profile and long brass reinforce. Fantastic and very beautiful tiger stripe maple fullstock with silver inlays (old repair at wrist) including silver thumb piece, two silver half moons and 8 along the fore-end. Barrel condition is clean steel with excellent Beck signature. Lockplate is slightly patinated with crisp engraving.

Action is fine on both half and full cock. Stock has repair at wrist and two period replaced moons on fire-end. The Pronounced tiger maple has a lovely glowing honey patina and will warm the heart of any Kentucky collector, Brass furniture is very fine especially the Beck patchbox. Rifled bore rates excellent. David Beck is reportedly to have died in a powder explosion in Kittanning, Pennsylvania in 1826.
