A Fine Full Martially Inspected Civil War Poultney & Trimble Smith Carbine Serial Number 10608. 21 and 5/8th inch barrel. 50 caliber.

Flayderman states early carbines under serial 11,000 are by Mass. Arms Co. however this is a very early American Machine Works Smith made in August of 1863 when the Civil War was raging.
Condition of the barrel retains 90+% fading original blue. Frame retains nearly 75% of its darkening casehardening with some bright color remaining. Triggerguard and tang with 85% of its bright original blue. Dark walnut stocks are excellent with minor military marks and perfect “JH” cartouche in oval and a second lightly struck in rectangle. Action is excellent and bore is mint perfect.
