A Rare And Desirable
Spanish Ripoll Miquelet Pistol Circa 1675.
10 inch ‘Spanish form’ barrel with brass muzzle ring. 60 caliber. Condition of barrel mostly gray steel with wear to breech engraving. Finely engraved ‘patilla’ lock patinated but retaining all original small parts. Frizzen elegantly molded with lip. Chiseled steel triggerguard. Steel sideplate incorporates the long steel belt hook pierced with a heart.
The walnut full stock extensively inlaid with engraved steel tracery in the Ripoll manner. Pistol has classic late 17th century rounded ovoid butt. Steel tracery engraving worn but present. Stock has been cleaned, repair to fore-end behind rear ramrod pipe. Minor wood loss under lock.
17 inches overall, this is a large and handsome Spanish pistol which well could have been carried by a Spanish nobleman in the New World. The action is stiff with the characteristic very heavy mainspring. The bore is fair.
