A Beautiful Early 18th Century Gilt Bronze Mounted Princely Austrian Diminutive Flintlock Officer’s Flintlock Pistol By Giovanni Botti (1685-1720 Stockel QO) Made For Prince Ernst August Of Hanover Provenance: Schloss Ettersberg.
8 and 1/2 inch sighted barrel. .44 caliber. The breech section finely fluted in the Italian manner as many of Botti’s pistols and long arms made for the Duke are signed “Lazarino Cominazzo”. Convex lock beautifully chiseled at tail with a dragon’s head. The hammer chiseled in high relief with a dragon head amid scrolling foliage. Frizzen relief chiseled with foliage. Lock boldly signed “Gio Botti”.
Full gilt mounts cast and chased in relief with strap work and foliage. Spurred buttcap with dragon heads amid foliage. Screws retain most original niter bluing. Figured molded walnut full stock. Original ramrod with original gilt tip. Steel parts with all original polish. Gilt mounts with 90%+ original gilding. Action is like new. Bore is mint and pistol appears unfired. 14 inches overall.
Nearly all Schloss Ettersberg are unused and unfired and represent some of the most beautiful and remarkable early 18th century flintlock pistols and long guns that survive. The elegant form of this pistol combines with excellent quality and nearly mint condition will make it a delight in the collection of the fortunate buyer. Would make a most extravagant gift for anyone who appreciates high art weapons.
