A Fine And Rare British Flintlock Officer’s Fusil Circa 1800 By Ketland & Co With Lock Stamped With British Crown.
39 inch regulation barrel. 65 caliber round barrel struck with British proofs and regimental (?) “N3”. The barrel with light age brown and no pitting. Bolted front action flintlock lock with crown signed Ketland & Co and border engraving. The swan neck cock with border engraving ensuite. Brass regulation Brown Bess type furniture.
Deluxe highly figured walnut full stock with finely checkered wrist. Vacant silver thumb piece. Wedge fastened barrel. Brass forend cap. Trumpet end ramrod appears to be the original. Condition of lock is age brown and no pitting. Stock with minor marks but generally fine. Bore is fine.Action is crisp on both full and half cock.
This is a really elegant British officer’s fusillade that was doubtless the pride of some serving officer during the Napoleonic wars. Condition is lovely as is the form of this most attractive fusil.
