A Beautiful “In the Black” Kentucky Rifle Converted From Flintlock To Percussion With Finely Pierced Brass Patchbox Circa 1825. 38 inch octagonal barrel. .36 caliber.
The barrel deeply patinated with medium to heavy pitting on top flat but totally uncleaned and untouched. Front and rear sight intact. Bolted engraved front action lock marked “LONDON WARRENTED”.
Excellent “tiger striped” maple full stock with great fiddleback figure throughout. Stock with old repair at wrist gives this rifle even more character. Lovely engraved elaborate brass patchbox. The stock with incise wriggle work carving on butt and line carving on fore-end. The beauty of the tiger striping has to be seen to be fully appreciated.
Brass triggerguard and engraved sideplate. Action works but slightly sticky on full cock. Wedge fastened barrel. The form of this Kentucky is particularly elegant. A carved “in the black” Kentucky.
