A Superb Near Mint Sharp's Model 1868 50-70 Saddle Ring Carbine Serial C 27442 With 6 Groove Rifled Barrel. 22 inch barrel. 50-70 caliber.
Barrel stamped at breech ‘New Model 1863’ and ‘Sharp's Rifle Manufg Co Hartford Conn'. Barrel retains nearly 100% soft arsenal blue. Rear sight screw retains all its brilliant niter blue. Lock retains nearly 100% of its original arsenal casehardening though fading on lock the case color is brilliant on breechblock and barrel tang. All screws with brilliant niter blue. Lever with some minor staining but good color. Saddle bar finished in the bright.
The butt stock and fore-end are outstanding with nearly 100% of their original oil finish, perfect ‘DFC’ (David Frederic Clark) military inspector’s cartouche. Buttplate with faded case color.
David Frederick Clark is the famous inspector of Colt Cavalry Single Action Army’s used in the Wars of Western Expansion against the Native American tribes.
The action is crisp as new and the bore is mint. As fine an example of a Sharps 1868 saddle ring carbine as you are likely to find. A no apology carbine.
