A Scarce Civilian Remington New Model Army Revolver Serial Number 42423.
.44 caliber / 8 inch octagonal barrel. Out of the 122,000 Remington New Model’s manufactured only 15,000 were civilian specimens. These lack military inspector’s stamps on parts and grips.
Condition of serial number 42423 is fine to excellent. The barrel retains 85% bright blue with some flaking. Cylinder with 50% thinning blue. The frame is flaked with only traces of blue remaining but no wear or pitting. The hammer has traces of case hardening. There are minor chatter marks under the loading lever from cylinder removal.
Walnut grips have most original varnish with minor marks and a small chip at the rear toe of the left grip panel. The bore is excellent and bright. Action is extremely crisp.
This is a scarce Remington and is a very nice Civil War period revolver that will please any collector.
