A Fine Pair Of Silver Inlaid and Chiseled Spanish Gentleman’s Percussion Officer’s Pistols by Jose Ramon Gabiola dated 1853. 

5 and 1/8th inch cannon barrels. 60 caliber. The barrels with finely molded cannon muzzles are elaborately inlaid for their entire length with birds amid florals and “POR JOSE RAMON GABIOLA EN EIBAR” on top flat. On right side: “ANO De 1853” and “CANON ENTORCHADO (twisted or Damascus) on left.

Back action locks with hammers chiseled in the round as dogs of exemplary quality. Engraved steel trigger guards. Steel buttcaps with shell form butt traps for percussion caps. Checkered walnut full stocks. Both pistols complete with their original brass tipped ramrods, one with worm, the other with slotted tip for cleaning. 11 and 1/2 inches overall. Condition of barrels smooth gray with all silver inlay intact. Silver band at breeches. Steel mounts are smooth metal with no pitting. Locks are fine with minor staining only and actions are excellent with crisp half and full cock. Butt traps snap closed tightly.

Stocks retain most of their original high polish varnish with good checkering and no losses. Bores are fine. This is a fine pair of artistic Spanish pistols by one of Spain’s most distinguished mid-19th century gunmaker’s.
