U.S. Model 1863 Rifle Musket, Type 1, manufactured by Lamson, Goodnow and Yale, better known as L. G. & Y., in Windsor, Vermont. .58 caliber, 40 inch barrel.
This gun is in generally good condition, with the wood in particularly good condition. The barrelk shows some regions of moderate pitting, and larger regions of minor pitting. The top and top-rear of the barrel show more pitting than other regions.
The action functions flawlessly on this largely original condition rifle. There is a pleasant brown patina on most of the metal work with only very few scattered areas of the original bright meatl.
Overall a very nice rifle made by the company that itself manufactured much of the gunmaking machinery used by Union manufacturers during the Civil War.
