A Very Scarce Springfield Armory Model 1816 Flintlock Musket Type III “National Armory Bright”. 69 caliber with 42 inch round barrel.

This is a rare U.S. musket. Flayderman states “More of this type were converted to percussion than the Type II, hence flintlock specimens are very scarce, if not rare.”

Making this musket even better both lock and barrel are dated 1835. The lock is deeply struck with National eagle over US and stamped at tail ‘Springfield 1835’. Barrel stamped ‘V P’ with eagle and dated 1835.

Fine walnut full stock with inspector’s cartouche in an oval. Condition is full dimension and untouched, uncleaned, with deep even age brown barrel and lock. Wood is full dimension and inspector’s cartouche is partially legible but not worn but due to minor arsenal storage marks. Lock parts are all original not converted and action is crisp as new. Rifled bore is fine. Trumpet ramrod appears original.

This is a very scarce primary U.S. musket valued by Flayderman in fine condition at $7000.
