A Very Good And Desirable Colt Model 1851 Army Navy Serial Number 70597 For 1857.

7 and 1/2 inch octagonal barrel. .36 caliber. Army Navy Colts are in the 40,000 to 80,000 serial number range.

This fine Colt retains 40% thinning pasty military blue on the barrel. The loading lever retains 70% color casehardening. The cylinder is flaked but has 98% visible Ormsby scene with no real wear. All matching including wedge. Some wear at muzzle from careful military service. The bore is good with sharp lands and groove. Cylinder has good nipples and even has 4 intact safety pins. The frame exhibits 65% color casehardening.

This lovely U.S. Army revolver shows numerous military sub inspectors marks on barrel, triggerguard and backstrap. Plain brass backstrap and triggerguard appropriate for an Army Navy. Hammer with faded casehardening. The walnut grips are good however the ADK inspectors cartouche is worn away. The action is as tight as a new revolver and the cylinder locks up like a bank vault. All Colt Army Navy’s are sought after and serial number 70597 is a fine example.
