A Massive And Unusually Powerful Continental Left Hand Dagger Circa 1620 With Magnificent Finely Pierced And Fullered Diamond Shaped Blade.
The stout blade measures 11 and 1/2 inches becoming rectangular at forte beautifully pierced with triple long fullers. The blade on its own is a work of the smith’s art, pleasing to the eye on every level and capable of piercing mail. The rectangular forte pierced and 2 and 1/16th inch in length and 1 inch wide. Steel cross guard with expanded writhen bulbous finials.
The wood grip bund with elaborate spiral twisted steel wire surmounted by “Turk’s Heads” (one absent). Heavy steel pommel with ‘lotus’ form below the pumpkin shaped center section below a large pommel nut. This intricate pommel with rare double foot.
Overall condition is excellent. A full 17 inches overall, this is a dagger that any Italian nobleman would have used to defend himself in a serious situation.
