A Very Rare Late 15th Century Continental Ballock Or ‘Kidney’ Dagger In Good Excavated Condition.
Stout 11 and 7/8th inch diamond section blade. The guard of characteristic ‘kidney’ or ‘ballock’ shape, the quillions can be said to resemble certain parts of the male anatomy hence the name.
Rectangular tang, the grip absent. Finely forged disk pommel is untouched and properly peened over. The color of the excavated patinated surface is everything one expects to see in an authentic dagger of the period 1470.
17 and 1/16th inches overall. This dagger balances beautifully and was clearly a prized weapon during the late 15th century.
