A Truly Splendid Massive Gold Damascened Indian Katar With Watered Blade And Pierced Original Gold Damascened Scabbard Circa 18th/19th Century.
8 and 1/2 inch swelled point blade is a full 2 and 9/16th inches wide at forte chiseled with fullers on each side. Fine wootz Damascus pattern is clearly discernible. The long steel hilt is magnificently Damascened in gold on the outside of the legs with finely executed large blossoms amid an elaborate gold foliate background. The gold Damascene in excellent condition with little or no appreciable wear. The inside of the legs Damascened in gold ensuite with the outside. The two grip bars Damascened in gold.
The original steel scabbard pierced with vines and blossoms with gold Damascened details. The scabbard retains its original finely forged iron belt loop and red velvet lined wood interior. 18 and 1/2 inches long in scabbard.
This is a work of art Indian Tatar that is also a serious functional weapon and will satisfy even the most advanced aficionado of Sub Continent arms.
