A very good flintlock boxlock pocket pistol by Styan of Manchester.
This is an English Flintlock Boxlock Pocket Pistol circa 1800 marked with "Manchester" on one side of the box lock and "Styan" on the other side. Thomas Styan was an active weapon maker between 1790 and 1819, and he had a workshop in Manchester circa 1803 to 1811.
This has a folding trigger, and the action functions flawlessly. It has the standard English proofs. The metal is lightly oxidized; there is scattered light pitting near the action. There is elaborate engraving on the trigger guard and box.
The wood slab grips are in good condition. This is a good, solid pistol and clean compared to many others like it. It should clean very well, even more, to an enhanced appearance if desired in that condition.
This would have been used as a personal protection weapon in the late 18th and early 19th Century.
