A Very Good Revolutionary War Period Long British Horseman’s Saber With Lion Head Brass Hilt And Pommel Circa 1775.
30 inch curved blade with 21 inch narrow fuller. 1 and 3/16th inches at forte. Blade engraved on both sides with sun in splendor, two stars, and large man in the moon in panel (engraving worn). Condition is good with no corrosion and only wear from use. Edge is still keen.
Three branch hilt with thumb ring and double counter guard. Reeded solid brass grip surmounted by brass lion head pommel with broad grin. This fine horseman’s sword is accompanied by its original leather scabbard with brass chape and locket. The leather with most original black finish and expected weather following 250 years of age.
A most attractive horseman’s saber likely carried by a British officer during the War of Independence.
