Finely engraved darkened casehardened breech with two beautiful gold lines. Superbly engraved breech tang with engraved screw. The lock is superb in keeping with the ultimate quality for which both John and Joe Manton are so justly renowned. The lock with blued push-on safety, saw tooth engraved border, bolted, signed “JOHN MANTON & SON PATENT”.
Superbly crafted waterproof pan, finely engraved “French” cock, blued frizzen spring. The unique pan is doubtless the “PATENT” referred to. The triggerguard is a work of art in itself featuring best quality English engraving with classic ‘pineapple’ finial and trophy of arms on the bow and serial number in an over. The guard with much original peacock blue finish.
Finely figured walnut half stock with original flattened Manton checkering. Original horn tipped ramrod. The condition of metal and wood is excellent and original throughout. The action is like new on both half and full cock.
This is a very rare “cheater" dueling pistol with the entire bore with microgroove rifling. The bore is excellent. In sum you will not find a higher quality Manton dueler nor one with a barrel that has not been rebrowned.
