A Very Fine Skull Of A Burgonet Helmet Possibly French The Finely Formed Skull Of One Piece Superbly Etched In The 19th Century The Skull Circa 1600.
Weighing 3 pounds 10 ounces. The elegant crest rising nearly 2 and 1/2 inches demonstrating the consummate skill of the master armourer who forged this lovely helmet. The crest finely roped and showing the separation associated with a one piece helmet of this period possessing such an elevated crest. The brow is roped and shaped to form rather than being simply straight across once again showing the helmet’s superiority of conception and construction.
The interior showing great age as well as marks from the hammer and the two flutes that sit astride the crest on both sides. Evidence of age is all over this lovely headpiece. The etching of unusually fine quality, the right side depicting Juno Victrix crowned in foliage and a vicious monster head, Hermes complete with a caduceus and a winged serpent. The left side with Mars and Minerva. The crest with mounted knights in combat in a forest of foliage.
The condition is excellent with no corrosion. A genuinely magnificent helmet that will impress anyone with an interest in fine European armor.
