This is an Impressive Continental Swept Hilt Rapier Circa 1620.

The unmarked rapier blade measures a full 40 inches to the ricasso with short fuller.

The complex hilt with long swelling quillions is with a loop guard and large side ring. Large urn shape pommel appears to be original to the rapier. Beautiful and complex braided copper wire bound wood grip with “Turk’s Heads” (top one missing).

This is a big sword for a powerful man, measuring 51 inches in length. The condition of the blade and hilt is chemically cleaned with light pitting mainly on the blade toward the ricasso. The grip is excellent with the exception of the missing “Turk’s Head”.

This is an authentic early 17th century rapier with exfoliation on the guard and not a 19th century imitation. The wire grip binding is very fine quality. The sword is tight and ready to hang on one’s office wall or hall of arms and armour.

A rare opportunity to acquire a genuine period rapier.
