This is a truly Splendid 1780 Period Spanish Bilbao or Caribe Hilt Broadsword.
The beautiful 37 and 3/4 inch six sided broadsword blade is 1 and 1/2 inches wide at forte. The Caribe style guard is with a "D" knuckle guard. The waisted grip is bound with twisted copper wire bound with four steel straps, topped by an onion pommel.
The condition overall is spectacular with only minor staining on the blade. Guard is fine overall. Grip is excellent. Bladesmith’s mark of an arrow at extreme forte.
Certainly one of the best quality and condition Spanish Bilbaos on offer anywhere. Not to be confused with the poor quality, rusted and corroded swords one usually sees.
This sword is 43 and 1/2 inches overall and will be a great addition to any collection of arms and armour.
