Meiji Period Japanese Artilleryman's Sword, sometimes referred to as the Model 1886.
Wood handled version, with steel throat and chape on the black leather scabbard. Hilt is tight with the cast steel guard and pommel retaining much black finish. Wood handle with one stable crack.
The 21 1/4" blade is mostly bright with no chips. Only two indecipherable characters visible on one side of the ricasso. Scabbard is completely intact, the leather showing normal age and no dents to the throat/chape.
A fine example of this sword for your collection. Overall length in scabbard 26 3/4".
