A Fascinating Indian Saber With Tiger Hilt And Silver Mounted Scabbard Circa 1845.
29 inch curved broad blade with single fuller and 4 and 1/2 inch clip point. The blade decorated with line engraving on the right flat. The blade might well be Damascus. The hilt of silvered copper cast in the round with a large tiger serving as the pommel with open mouth and clearly visible fangs. (Right side with a large dent does not detract from the effect).
The green velvet covered wood scabbard with elaborate and massive engraved silver locket with ring and 8 1/2 inch long engraved silver chape. Altogether a most impressive Indian sword reminiscent of the tiger hilted blades of the legendary Tiger of Mysore, Tipu Sultan at a most affordable price.
