A Superb, Complete And Extremely Rare Suite Of Gold Decorated Islamic Armour Including Kulah Khud, Bazu Band, And Sipar All Ensuite Circa 1850.

One of the most luxurious and beautiful sets we have seen in or out of public collections. The helmet of classic form with gold line decorated central spike. The skull entirely decorated in heavy gold Damascening depicting birds amid grapevines and clusters of grapes. The nasal guard gold Damascened. The rim with large panels of Islamic calligraphy in silver separated by gold Damascened borders. The coif of very fine butted steel link mail enriched with brass links forming decorative bands as is characteristic of better Islamic kulah thud’s.

The bazu band decorated ensuite. The lovely sipar decorated ensuite with the helmet, the outer border chiseled with Islamic calligraphy within gold reserves of superior artistry and execution.

The sipar is 17 inches in diameter. The set is preserved in exemplary condition with the gold Damascene nearly pristine, the silver calligraphy darkened, and all surfaces a rich brown with no corrosion. The kulah khud, bazu band and sipar all retain their original quilted red lining.

Would not look out of place in a case in the Wallace Collection. Simply wonderful.
